The shop around the corner

Brigid at MangaBlog, Kevin Melrose at Blog@Newsarama, and David Taylor at Love Manga have already covered ICv2’s interview with Tokyopop’s Mike Kiley, so I’ll limit myself to just one reaction: I have to go to their web site to buy Dragon Head?

Oh, hell.

Between that and my somewhat belated realization that DMP has put Bambi and Her Pink Gun on hiatus, it looks like I’m going to have to find some new twisted and violent manga to fill that reading niche. At least I still have Eden and Anne Freaks, the latter of which releases a new volume this week.

Aside from that (and Anne Freaks doesn’t seem to be shipping to my shop of choice this week anyways), there isn’t really any reason for me to hit the LCS on Wednesday. That probably should depress me at least a little bit, but construction, traffic and parking are all so horrible in town at the moment that I’m really, really relieved.

I’ll head over to the bookstore instead and pick up some recommended titles. And I have a coupon!

"I have to go to their web site to buy Dragon Head?"

What??? And right after you got me hooked on the series again!

Hmm, Amazon still shows DRAGON HEAD v6 as available for preorder. I wonder how long that will last. (We should all preorder it so that Tokyopop would be stupid to cancel the preorders and lose all those sales.)

Yeah, what a drag about Dragon Head, eh? Such a good book. Luckily I already buy most of my manga from TRSI, TokyoPop's backend for their web store, but unfortunately now I can't get the normal 25% discount. :(

Hmm, you want some "new and twisted violent manga"? Check out VIZ's Signature release of Drifting Classroom, which was just released.

Hm, wha? I guess this is one of those times I benefit from having taken so long to pick this up. (As I mentioned earlier, I get too easily confused on many manga titles.) Knowing this, I'll probably delay checking out Dragon Head for the equally intruiging ES from Del Ray.

...but not until I'm caught up on Monster, at the least.

'course, if you're seeking violent and twisted, there's always Battle Royale, though from what little I've seen of the manga, I recommend checking out the novel instead.

John: I know! Doesn't my timing suck?

Jarred: I had actually snuck Drifting Classroom onto my list on my own initiative! So there!

Lyle: Okay, so that's two reliable sources who think ES looks interesting. And Del Rey always does a nice job with production...

How odd, I hit refresh on the main page and my comment doesn't appear (so I came to the form to re-write what I said) but here I see it, along with a response showing I'm not the only one who's seen it.

Unfortunately, I left the Del Rey sampler I got in San Diego on a table in the airport Rubios, but ES was the one that grabed my interest in that sampler. Annoyingly, Del Rey doesn't have the sampler available online, so I can't remind myself what struck me about this one, but I had the feeling this might satisfy the Death Note portion of my brain. (Thematically, not for DN's intricate plots.)

My dad's comic book superhero -Captain Canuck - is back, after a 10 year leave of absence, this time to stop illegal weapons being smuggled en route from the US to Canada! Legacy, the new 4 part series, can be purchased here.

Hope youz all check it out!
